Intellectual property impacts every aspect of our daily lives.

Yet at universities — which are fountains of knowledge and innovation — there are only few if any structures in place which guide researchers and creators through the intellectual property system and help them protect and manage the work they create.

In my work, I’ve specialized on helping professors, researchers and students effectively use intellectual property for their benefit. Additionally, I have helped universities to optimize and strategize their engagement with intellectual property.

A Guide to Patents in Academia

My new book

Patents and Professors

In this book I discuss the use of patents at US research universities and the effect of university patenting on academia and society.

The book has been inspired by working closely with university researchers and administrators for many years.

One of the key suggestions is for universities to become strategic in how they use intellectual property and especially patents.
